THE DEBUTANTE and THE BEAU
The origin and meaning of “DEBUT” is not only interesting, it hints of things to come. The word comes from the French word Debuter, which means the first stroke in a game. Now it has been the admitted reason of presenting a young lady/man to society; to announce that she/he is now a grownup and may join adult society.
We, the ULYSEES TURNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND, Inc. are proud to present young men, as well as young ladies in full evening dress for all society to see.
The types of entertainment usually held when presenting a young lady or young man to society are luncheons, dances, receptions, both afternoon and evening dinner dances and balls. Any and all of these may be held in the church, home or at a club or hotel.
At an evening dance, Debs and Beaus have no choice of color to wear . . . it’s white only. For this occasion, the mother wears an evening dress in pastel shade, never black. The father and escorts wear black or white formal attire.
